VectoBac is a biological larvicide used to control the Aedes aegypti mosquito that transmits Zika. The same mosquito also carries Chikungunya and Dengue, two other tropical diseases spread by the bites of infected mosquitoes. USAID’s ZAP vector control project is part of a strategy to prevent the spread of Zika. Vector control specialists educate local residents to reduce standing water. They also check the open-air wash basin, test for mosquito larvae, and then apply Vectobac, a biological larvicide manufactured in the U.S., to the water in the basin.
