Nurse Zayda Caceres, ASSIST Liaison with the Tela Hospital in El Progreso City, Honduras, speaks with Sandra Meja, 19-year-old mother of 3-month-old Aylin Meja, who is at risk for developing Congenital Zika Syndrome. Infants at risk are monitored by medical staff, according to Dr. Ileana Mayes Flores, who works as a geneticist for the Ministry of Health in Honduras. The Zika virus can be spread by mosquitoes, from pregnant women to the fetus, as well as through sex and through blood transfusion.
