A woman in Togo carries a load of firewood. For women in Togo, collecting and selling firewood is an important way to earn income. Rural women often transport loads of wood weighing between 40 and 60 kg on foot to the nearest city, often a distance of 10 to 20 km. This amount of wood yields approximately $3 US to provide for cooking needs.
