Patients wait to be seen at the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital in Kashi, Xinjiang Province, China. Orbis, a charity based in the United Kingdom, operates a DC10 plane that is fully equipped as an opthamological surgery. With a small staff and volunteer professionals from all over the world, the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital travels to some of most remote corners of the planet to perform eye surgery and to train local doctors. One of the most moving aspects of these missions is the number of people who travel, some walking, to meet the plane. Naturally, not all can be treated so the triage process is often a time of real apprehension. This photo captures the apprehension and hope that they will be chosen for treatment.
