Lachhima Khatun, daughter of a widowed vegetable vendor in Kantabele village, West Bengal, India, studies for her college coursework. She comes from an extremely poor family living below the poverty line, but wanted to continue her studies in a nearby school despite many odds. A voluntary organization lent their support by providing funds and arranged for special tuition to her along with some other children of the village. During the last four years, Lachhima passed the Secondary as well as Higher Secondary levels. Now she is studying at college and wants to be a teacher when she graduates.
