1. Announcing...the 4th Annual International Photoshare Photo Contest!

2006 Photoshare Photo Contest (4th Annual)
Sponsored by The INFO Project and Canon

Do you have photos of programs in action and the people you serve? Pictures illustrating the realities of urban and rural life in developing countries? Snapshots from your personal travels, volunteer service, or work experience? You may have an award-winning photo and a chance to win cash and/or a Canon digital camera!

2. Farewell Lavina Velasco!

Please join us in wishing Lavina Velasco all the best, and a fond farewell!
After eight years of managing Photoshare Lavina has decided to resign and focus her full attention to family. We will miss her leadership and dedication to Photoshare's mission.

Lavina Velasco had more than eight years experience in digital imaging management, beginning with the development of Photoshare in 1998. Trained in web site design and development, database design and development, traditional photography, and digital imaging, Lavina helped establish a photo database in response to internal requests for a more organized photo collection. Recognizing the need for development photography among international non-profits, the Center for Communication Programs expanded and launched its internal database as a public service known as Photoshare. Lavina was responsible for new acquisitions, database and website design, cataloging, and general project management. She conducted dozens of presentations and training sessions for international visitors and colleagues, assisting them in documenting, sharing, and using photos as a way to advance the work of public health missions around the world.

Photoshare staff would like to recognize AfricaFiles for including both the Photoshare credit and caption on their website and e-newsletter At Issue Ezine: Vol. 4, No. 2. 5. Photos and Equipment Needed

 

Photoshare generally needs more photos of the following subjects from ALL REGIONS.

General Human Interest (photos illustrating rural and urban life/populations)

  • Couples and families
  • Adolescents
  • Women and children
  • Fathers and children

Health-Related Activities, Behaviors, and Interventions

  • Family planning and reproductive health (e.g. education, counseling, DEPO injections, display of a year's supply of pills)
  • HIV/AIDS (e.g. prevention, care, and treatment, PMTCT)
  • Maternal and child health (e.g. services, pregnancy, antenatal care, childbirth, breastfeeding, nutrition)
  • Malaria (e.g. prevention and treatment, bednet photos needed)
  • Tuberculosis (e.g. prevention and treatment)
  • Community Based Distribution (CBD) workers

Financial Activities and Economic Development 

Environment

  • Water (e.g. supply, use, quality, pollution, protection)
  • Air
  • Land and natural resources management
  • Food Security
  • Disasters (e.g. impact, relief, preparedness)

Specific Under-Represented Countries and Regions
