The 2010 Photoshare World Pneumonia Day Photo Contest is a collaboration between Photoshare, a service for Knowledge for Health (K4Health), and the International Vaccine Access Center at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in partnership with the Global Coalition against Child Pneumonia. Contest prize sponsorship provided by Nikon. By submitting their images, participants donate their work and contribute to a growing collection of development-oriented photography, helping nonprofits communicate health and development issues worldwide. The 2010 Photoshare World Pneumonia Day Photo Contest will focus attention on the devastating impact of pneumonia, a disease that claims the lives of over 1.5 million children under five each year, and the efforts to prevent the disease. This effort, with support from World Pneumonia Day partner organizations will complement lead up activities to the second-annual World Pneumonia Day on November 12, 2010. |
The contest features seven awards and five categories: Best Entry for for Africa, The Americas / Europe and Central Asia, South-East Asia / Western Pacific, as well as Best Narrative, Most Oustanding Entry and two Honorable Mentions. A Nikon digital camera will be awarded for each category. Contest Awards and Categories by Region*

Send images and Entry Form to photoshare@k4health.org. *NOTICE: The regional categories Europe and Central Asia and Western Pacific failed to receive a required minimum of contest entries; as a result these regional categories have merged with existing regions. Camera awards will be presented to Honorable Mentions selected from all contest submissions. |
Contest winners will be evaluated based on topic relevancy and technical execution, selected by an expert panel of three judges including:
Submissions will be displayed as part of an exhibit at a prestigious venue in Washington, D.C. during the summer of 2010. Contest submissions, Winners and finalists (approximately 3-5 per category) will be displayed as part of an exhibit at a prestigious venue in New York, NY during the summer of 2010. The contest will highlight photography's vital role in capturing the realities and impact of pneumonia worldwide. Contest images will support Photoshare and international nonprofits using photography to communicate issues related to global health and development. |

**Photographers reserve all rights to their images. Photos submitted for this contest can be used-- with photographer credits in the caption-- by Photoshare/Hopkins and the World Pneumonia Day coalition for charitable and non-profit purposes only. Image requests are carefully vetted for context appropriateness: the manager of Photoshare considers what caption will be used and can strongly suggest a caption, where the images will be published, and with what intended audience. Photoshare
Photoshare is a service of Knowledge for Health (K4Health), helping non-profit organizations communicate global health and development issues through photography. By facilitating photo sharing among colleagues in international development, Photoshare has become a leading source for editorial development photography. The Photoshare collection, consisting primarily of photos taken by public health professionals in the field, contains more than 17,000 images illustrating the realities of urban and rural life in developing countries, as well as global efforts to improve and save lives. Photoshare based at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Communication Programs, serves many major government institutions and international NGOs. International Vaccine Access Center
The International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) at the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health aims to accelerate global access to life-saving vaccines through development and implementation of evidence-based policies. IVAC was established to increase access to lifesaving vaccines by overcoming many of the obstacles that often delay vaccine usage and distribution. IVAC will also serve as a source of vaccine policy information and analysis and will develop and use evidence to advocate for improved global health policies and their implementation.
